I'm in the Austin, TX area and am about to start my search for a plastic surgeon for rhinoplasty. My friend who also had this procedure said I need to go to L.A. to get the best surgeon because they do plastic surgery procedures like a million times a day so they're the best/most experienced and practiced. But that would require a LOT of traveling hassles and I don't even know how to start looking/screening for the "right doctor", and trying to have this done in L.A. would just add to my confusion. Do I really need to go to L.A. to feel comfortable that I'm in the best hands, or are there doctors in the Austin area, or even Dallas or San Antonio (yes, that would involve traveling too but it's closer than California!) that are just as distinguished and on "that level"? Any advice on how to filter through doctors, what questions to ask, how to find the doctor who's right for me, etc.....pretty much any advice on this whole process would be great. Thank you!

Austin is pretty big i'm sure their is an experienced plastic surgeon their. Look in the phone book for plastic surgeons in your area. Call a couple up and see if they will let you meet some passed clients and see how their experiences are. I find it ironic they call a nose job rhinoplasty. Becuase you know the size of a rhinos nose.

This kind of procedure can be really risky and finding the right doctor is a big deal! There can be crazy surgeons in L.A. the same as Texas, so staying local would be the safest. The best source for finding a great surgeon is through people who have gone through the procedure, so if it isn't too embarassing, ask friends and family if they know anyone who has gotten 'work done'. If not, it is always a good idea to schedule an 'introductory consultation' with a surgeon that you are interested in, even if you are still just looking. That way you can compare prices, and be sure to ask for a portfolio of before and after pictures (most legitimate practices have these!!), be sure to see credentials and certifications of the surgeon you choose, and don't feel strange about asking because its important! Be sure to get all the information you can about each practice you are considering and make sure you are completely comfortable with the surgeon and his staff before you decide anything.

Dear Abb,

The best source you could have would be the AMA, American Medical Association, that is listed in your yellow pages. All doctors are required to be listed there and you can find out everything you need to know about a surgeon there....from where he/she went to college to what they specialize in along with a review panel on his/her expertise.

Do your research, read up on the procedure you want. Check the background, credentials, experience and if there are any complaints or lawsuits filed with the AMA (AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION). Most important of all TAKE YOUR TIME and be thorough. Good luck

I'd get personal references thru work, family & friends. They give you the best feedback.

Rhinoplasty surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
