Is a histogram in frequencies? I have 21 measurementsof winter rainfall , all unique values. I have to draw a histogram with these measurments shown against the year they were measured. Should I split it up and have bars entitled - 0-10mm, 11-20mm etc or just do a bar for each years measurement - hope this makes sense!

What I would do, is split the data into years and then into categories like 0-10, 11-20 etc. Then draw a bar for each of the different amounts of rain and split the bar for each year. for example if u have 2 days in one yr with 0-10 rainfall, then 3 days in the other, u can colour the first year from 0-2 red, then the second section 2-5 in blue etc, so each yr is represented by a colour!

You could draw a histogram for any variable. In this case say you have winter rainfall for say 5 years. You take a graph paper and plot the values. Let the x-axis of the graph represent the years. The Y-axis to represent rainfall figures. Choose a scale for both years and rainfall. Against each year plot the respective rainfall. You join all the points and the histogram is ready.

well you can group the data and then draw bars for each group.
Do a tally chart first and see how many values lie in 0-20, 21-40 or whatever your values are. then draw your bar chart with the frequencies up the side.

It depends what you are trying to show. Are you looking to show a trend in rainfall over 21 years? If you are, the rainfall measurement grouping as you suggest, won't show what you need. I would do each year individually.

a histo gram does not have any space in between it's bars it is joint so in order to make a histogram of those values first make the values constant. Like you will have to make it from 1-10,11-20
to 1-10.5,10.5-20 and so on

You didn't say how many years are involved.Splitting your data essentially produces a 3-dimensional histogram. With so few data, I would go with just years.

Histo's use ranges to graph with . Cut up the complete range of values into a certain number of groups or "classes". THen graph on the Y axis the year
