It may be coming loose so i would get the nurse to check it. It is painful when inserted but they usually insert them under sedation or when you are on the operating table. If you have to have one inserted when not asleep/sedated it is important to RELAX (easier said than done!). Nurses are so good at this sort of thing it only takes a couple of seconds.

I wish your hubby a speedy recovery.

leaking from a catheter is not normal, it sounds like it needs changing, go to your practise nurse or GP. It will be a little uncountable when changed, but they numb the area with an anaesthetic cream and lubricant. There are different types of catheters long term and short term, the one he has in may be a short term one which has come to the end of it's life span. he will be able to mobilise as you can get leg bags which are attached to the leg using Velcro straps.

This is definitely normal. He obviously had surgery, and the catheter inserted helps him to urinate. From the surgery that he had, it's difficult for him to be mobile, and so this should be of assistance. No it is not painful. Actually the insert is inserted when the surgery is performed.

Uncomfortable, yes, but not painful.

Generally they are not supposed to leak. There is a small baloon near the end of the catherder that is in the bladder. It is blown up to prevent the line from coming out, but it is also supposed to stop leaking.

I would take him back to the doctors office and have them look at it.
