The thing I have found that works the best (and its been around forever) is a hedge apple (also called a hedge ball). Place one under your bed & under other furniture in the house. This way, they stay out of sight & your spiders wont come around.

You can find them in many grocery stores, but I got mine at a hardware store (Lowe's or Home Depot if you are in the states). I have other pets so I am wary of using sprays (which dont keep all spiders away anyhow) & dont have the money to keep hiring an exterminator. My other pets leave the hedge balls alone, & I have only seen one spider since--in the garage.

Good luck!

Getting rid of them is a problem, and probably a spider catcher is the best idea. That is if you can bear to get that close. My cats are quite partial to a nice spider! I have found that most insects don't like hypochlorite bleach and I clean bathroom floors, window sills etc with Domestos wipes. If you can get rid of other insects and flies, you may find that the spiders will stay away as there would be no food source. Good Luck!

Although you can have them exterminated, the Black Widows can be resisant, so you have to go out at night when they come out and smash them with a rock or, even better, hit them with carb cleaner. It kills them, wheras they laugh at RAID and other sprays.
Because I hate only the Black Widows and the Brown Recluse spiders, I keep those Daddy long legs around to kill them and other bugs. I just clear the extra web away and leave theirs behind the curtains and under cabinets.

The daddy long legs spiders can kill a black widow in an instant. they have the most poisonous bite. The reason they don't hurt us is that their teeth are so small, they can never penetrate human skin. Those spiders are our friends. Leave them alone to kill the flies and other nasty bugs.

In Britain if you have an infestation of them, that's another matter, but otherwise leave the harmless creatures alone. In fact they are most useful, getting rid of other nasties for you. The silly things get into my bath and can't climb out, so I give them a hand (literally). Put up a sign, "Spiders go home".

There isn't any foolproof way. I'm arachnophobic, and believe me, if there was a way of keeping spiders away, I'd have figured it out by now. Fact is there are probably hundreds of spiders in your home at any one time, but most of them prefer to stay well hidden.

Simplest way is still to trap the little critters in a glass and let them go outside. I used to be squeamish about this but it's surprisingly easy to do if you can just pluck up the courage once.

Why would you want to rid the house of spiders?????????? they keep there numbers down and despite the odd sheet and orb-web they tend to be clean. also they eat the little nasty bugs in the house.

I ask you a question: when you get things like flies in the house do you use fly killing spray? if so your putting chemicals in your body others bodies AND the atmosphire. Spiders clean no chemical pumped in the room and or course your NOT buying the harnful chemicals every week to kill flies.

To sum up: dont harm the atmosphire their clean and more effective then fly killer!!!!!!!!.

There is a spray that you can use which is a spider deterrent. You just spray it around windows doors etc and reapply every 2 to 3 weeks and believe me it does work, i even use it in my children's playhouse and the shed.
It is non harmful and does not kill them but they just seem to hate it.

The ingredients are natural chestnut extracts and clove leaf oil.

I got mine from a cheap £1 shop but i think Wilkinson's and most cheap shops sell them. It's called No More Spiders but the name can vary. Just look out for those ingredients.

Call a local pest controler. We have ours come out quartlery and they spray for all insects, and also do something for mice. It cost about $75 for the inital vist and then $45 each quarter after that. They also promise to come back out for free if you see any spiders, roaches, etc after they spray. There has only been one time that I had to call them back out because I seen a spider in the house. Good luck

You can use chemical sprays; but if you don't like them, Lemon oil is pretty good too. Just add some to a half bucket of water and mop your entrance and hard-surface areas. Also dip your web removing brush with the same water and go around the ceiling cornices . Inside you can just use use the oil direct. Reapply every couple of months.
