Go for it...............a lot of people change majors when going for their second degree.

Since you will need a research advisor to complete your thesis, you should talk to potential reseach advisors to see how the skills and knowledge you developed during your English degree can be applied to potential projects in psychology.

Over the course of my professorial career I had many applicants who wanted to do Ph.Ds in biochemistry but had degrees in other disciplines. I eventually trained a geography major as a biochemist and that person did well. She knew what she had done, she knew her skillsets, and she knew how to apply those skillsets to a brand new field.
