Ask the opinion of your neighbours, remembering that we all look for something different in a doctor. Start chatting in the local shops or outside school etc

Ask your neighbours / friends to recommend someone.

This used to be 'illegal,' by the way (though it obviously happened), and the way to go about it was to approach your local Library, the local Police, Pharmacies and I think the Post Office who each had a list of GP's in the area. From the list you then applied to one to see if s/he could take you on.

You can simply follow the same routine now.

PS: It was 'illegal' because it could be said that 'you were influenced and through that, the Doctor could make money.'

It was this potential 'commercialisation' that was the problem ....and could have a Doctor actually being 'Struck Off the Register' and so unable to practise medicine.

If you can go on someones recommendation, thats always helpful.

Or you could make a list of your local surgeries and check online for any local council info on them.

Dont know how this'll help tho as as far as my experience goes, all my surgeries Ive been at are good!

I think just take a chance, register at your local one, and if it turns out you really dont get along with a particular doc, either ask not to see them, or register somewhere else. Good luck
