here in the states, we have laws to protect us from the bad guys and i'm happy about it. if you have just one felony on your record you have a harder time getting a job in Oregon. in Oregon, they check back until you are18, when you're filling out an applacation on most jobs. when you try to fill out an applacation for most companies in Washington state they only go back ten yrs. i will admit, we can go for the boats in alaska, or, for the truck driving companies that are wiling to train you. there are outlets that you can go for, i'm looking for inforamtion about Minnasota and Chicago because i'm gonna try there in about one year, getting tired of the west coast. so, lets extend a hand to your brothers and sisters, don't give a hand out, but a hand up! thanx

Some employers are willing to take a chance on those with a criminal record, depending on various circumstances. It may take awhile to find one of those, but don't give up!

In the meantime, get into an adult education program and improve your spelling, grammar, math skills, and anything else that will help you to impress future employers with your readiness to do whatever is needed for self-improvement.

Also, network in a chosen community by becoming part of charitible organizations, church/equivalent, and volunteering at local agencies. Some doors may be closed to you because of your record, but keep knocking, because others will open. Also, the more you prove yourself, the more doors will open to you.

This is not true just of those with a criminal history, but for anyone with a mark against them in this world, such as disabilities, and other differences. If you are determined to make good in the world, you will!

Yes, your record will follow you. As an employer I wouldn't want someone with a police record working for me when there are so many others who have kept the straight and narrow. It may not seem fair from your side of the fence but that's just the way it is.
