Simple answer .. yes you can use "maestro" in Singapore. Many ATM's will accept, so just look for the maestro logo as depicted on your debit card. It seems odd that the bank says "should" be ok .. they are the professionals and they should know. Find another bank .. haha .. and have a great time in Singapore.

Yes you should be able to use the Maestro card in the Singapore.

Just for info. The reason Americans could not use their card in Canada. They forgot to notify their bank they would be traveling outside of the U.S. Most banks in the U.S. require you to activate your debit card or credit card to use outside of the U.S.

Another problem is merchants who only take debit card, may not take the international debit networks like Maestro or Visa Plus.
Some banks forgot to tell travelers not all place take this card.

The U.S. debit card is a dual use card.
If your card has a Visa or MasterCard symbol it will work at merchants that take those card. It will also work at merchants that take Visa Plus, Maestro, Cirrus, Interlink, Nyce, Star by entering your pin. You can tell what networks your card supports by looking at the front or back of the card.

Ah, I was going to suggest that you ask your Bank for the definitive answer but I see they say it "should be ok".

Why don't you take your credit card as a back-up in case you cannot - when I was in Toronto I met some American tourists who could not use their card and were VERY short of cash. Or you could take cash and travellers cheques - better not to be stuck penniless!!

I hope you have a great time and sorry I cannot give you a better answer.

Yes, I have used Cirrus and Maestro cards in several places in Singapore, cash point machines as well in the past few years.

Maestro is an internationally recognised card type and will be accepted anywhere where you see the Maestro symbol.

I do quite a bit of travelling and tend to take Visa and Mastercard - that's guarenteed to be accepted just about everywhere.

And they will be just as safe as a Debit card. You can always over pay of your card to avoid interest, or pay online if you have your various accounts online.

from when i was there, nearly all cards could be used at ATM's to access cash, but could not use a debit card in stores. Great place, hope you have fun.

Not at the cashier desks of shops (as I remember) but you can withdraw cash from ATMs.

Was there a few weeks ago doing some serious shopping and that's what I remember.
