During the French Revolution, what happened to the French people who escaped from France to England? And in England, how were they treated?? For example, how would a French Artist have been treated? And also, how would he have been treated for being a Catholic?? Why DID England not welcome these French people??

Also, why would the French want to escape France???

In England, you are alloud to be a Catholic as long as you keep it on the DL. Queen Elizabeth, a master politician, figured if you make it tough to be a Catholic they will evenutally give it up so there was no problem being a Catholic in England unless you were a fanatic. England was all about trade in the 1790's and had there own problems in the America's. They were taking a lot of former french land because the unstable government couldn't support it. I am sure England did not welcome the radicals and maybe not the fleeing nobles just because that could increase tensions between the two countries and England wanted no part of problems, like I said it was all about trade. A french artist probably would have no problem in france, I know Chopin ended up in Britain and had no problem, though he was Polish, he spent most of his life in France.
If you know anything about the french revolution, simply being alive was an excuse to have your head cut off. Would you want to stick around?

I assume you have based the assertion that they were not welcome on 'something'......
Many escaped to neighboring countries, particularly Belgium, England and Scotland. Their stay was largely only temporary with some returning and others settling in new areas of the French-speaking world. Some obviously did stay, particularly craftsmen such as furniture makers, whose skills were highly prized and sought after.
