Thinkpad used to be IBM's brand of notebooks. They sold their name and some of their business to Lenovo, a Chinese company about a year ago.

No I dont know but i have a think pad laptop at home and its from ibm its model no is R51 and I think teef_au is right the think pad is ibm's own brand in laptops and if still you have any doubts then see it in www.ibmlaptops.com it has many links to many sites which have contents on ibm laptops (think pad ) . plz vote for my ans

Laptop or Notebook computer is a generic term of portable computer.
Think-Pad is brand name of IBM (now acquired by Lenovo) laptops. thats all.
as somebody commented earlier, it does not depend on OS / HW.

'No difference as far as that they are both laptops/notebook computers.
The difference is in that the IBM ThinkPads uses a different operating system than the regular laptops O/S 2 as well as have a different hardware architecture.
