I have a 93 pontiac grand prix se with a 3.1L engine and it don't run I get a click from the starter and I just replaced that. Now the car has sat for about 3 years and I got it from my uncle for free so I won't complain about it.
Should I take apart the engine clean it up or just replace it? Because I think the engine is seized up but it could just be something else. Its got a spark from the center front of the engine when I try to turn it over. I think a short on one of the sprak plug wires.
I can get a engine for $505 or cheaper depending on the miles on it. could it just be the spark from the engine thats causing this problem. I have power to everything untill I try to turn it over then I have to diconnect the battery and reconnect it and I have power again. my car has 180,800 miles on it. So should I try to turn the engine over manualy or would that damage the engine?

Get the new engine. 180K miles is a lot, plus the car sat 3 years??? You might have a rusted out catalytic converter too. If you can't figure it out yourself and you don't have a buddy who is a mechanic it will cost at least the 500 to get it fixed in a garage. New plug wires are pretty cheap, so I guess it could be worth a shot to replace those and the plugs.

I'd say just scrap it all and get a newer car, but I'm guessing money may be an issue?

good luck...

The most likely spot for rust to form inside the engine is at the point where the rings touch the cylinder walls. Remove the spark plugs and squirt in some liguid wrench. Leave it there at least one whole day before trying to start engine. Barely start the spark plugs back into the holes to keep out dirt.
Be certain the battery is good, you can check it with a voltmeter. Should have at least 12.5 volts.

Clean all the cables and battery posts.
Now, with the spark plugs removed try to crank the engine over. Any excess liquid wrench will squirt out the spark plug holes.

See if she'll turn over.
If that didn't do, try again. Try it at least three times.

If that doesn't loosen the engine up, replace it..

Good luck

1. Make sure that you battery is putting out a full 15 volts when not operating anything.
2. Make sure the cables and the battery posts are clean and Shiny.
3. When you crank the engine the batter voltage sould not drop below 9 volts.. If it does, then it need a Charge. If it won't charge up then it needs to be replaced. I would not worry about a shorting spark plug wire It will not stop the engine from turning ove.

Good Luck. You cannot crank the engine manually unless it has a Clutcha and STick Transmission, then you could push it. to start it.
I doubt very much whether you could hurt the engine in any way.

You could try turning it over manually. But first, fill the engine to the top with kerosene and put some in the cylinders to. After you loosen the engine, be sure to drain well before installing new oil and filter.
This works sometimes and it's cheaper than buying and installing another engine. good luck.
