I got a ticket recently for not properly stopping at a stop sign. I was in a neighborhood right next to my house by a cop in a cop car, not a motercycle cop. I live in California and live in Orange County. Im pretty sure i stopped for atleast 2 seconds before accelerating past the stop sign because there was a car taking a right perpendicular to my car and i waited for him to finish taking the right before going. The cop said I did a "California Stop" and he said I didnt come to a complete stop. I was wondering if I should contest the ticket, and what is the possiblility I can win the ticket. Also I am wondering if anyone every tried fighting a ticket and the cop didnt show up, and what the ticket was for.

I agree with the majority here, pay the ticket and move on with your life. Getting a ticket isn't the end of the world!!

I wasn't there but I'm pretty sure you did a California Stop. Pay the ticket and be thankful that it's nothing more serious than a little traffic fine. And by the way, you're getting into some real bad habits for someone just starting out. Stop means stop and the mere fact that you mention another vehicle in the intersection same time as you roll up makes me shiver all over.

One thing you must do. Go to traffic school so that the ticket will not appear on your driving record.
You can go to court and contest the ticket. If the cop does not show up in court, then you have no opposition there and you could win your case, by telling the judge just what you put in this question.
if you lose and you do not go to traffic school,
Your Insuance rates will go up and stay up for three years. Good Luck

Sorry to say, unfortunately the court is likely to believe the word of an officer over you even if you are right, which I believe you are. If you really believe you have a chance, go ahead and fight it. The worse that can happen if you fight and lose is you end up paying the same ticket that you would pay if you gave up your right to fight it and paid in the first place. At least if you win, you saved yourself some money!! Good Luck!

Just pay up. It'll be cheaper in the long run.

You'll need a more convincing argument than "i'm pretty sure".

A complete stop is a complete stop. Not "i'm pretty sure" it was a stop of "at least 2 seconds".

just pay it and get the traffic school. You're guaranteed no mark on your record...therefore no increased insurance rates. Trust me, if you didnt completely stop he can bust you like that if he wants.

WHAT YOU CAN DO IS FINE OUT WHAT THE FINE IS AND SEND A CHECK IN FOR A COUPLE OF DOLLARS AND CENTS MORE THAN THE COST OF THE TICKET AND COURT COSTS, THEN THE COURTS WILL SEND YOU A CHECK BACK FOR THE DIFFERENCE. TEAR THE CHECK UP AND THROW IT AWAY. YOU CANNOT HAVE ANY POISTS ASSEST TO YOUR LICENCE UNTIL THAT CHECK IS CASHED, SEEINGS THAT YOU THREW IT AWAY YOU WON'T HAVE ANY POINTS ON YOUR LICENCE - IF HTE COP DOESN'T SHOW UP IN COURT THEN THE TICKET WILL BE DROPPED, MY EX-WIFE GOT BUSTED FOR A DUI AND WE TALKED TO THE DA AND HE TOLD US THAT THE COP WOULDN'T SHOW AND HER LICENCE WOULDN'T BE REVOKED. THEY WEREN'T

Just go to traffic school and it doesn't stay on your record, trust me, or your insurance will go up...
