He was having problems with his 2 front legs,we pulled his shoes off. I talked to my farrier and he thought the horse had been foundered at one time, but he was fine before he was shod..He now displays all the signs of foundering

He could have been about to founder when the shoes went on or a nail could have gone into the hoof too far at the wrong angle. Are his front feet hot? Often a foundering horse has heat in the hooves with the swelling. You can feel the excess temperature with your hand. A normal hoof is not hot, unless the horse is lying in the sun on a hot day, and even then it won't get very hot.

You should have the vet check. Look for the holes where the nails came out. Are any moist or have pus?

If you suspect founder, no grain, just hay and good, clean water. Running cool water on the hoofs may provide some comfort.

Horses with founder need medical attention. They can become permanently lame or worse.

Call your farrier back. Like someone else said, no one knows more about your horse's hooves then the farrier him/herself.

Even an experienced farrier can make mistakes. Have him come back and double check his/her work or call another farrier for a second opinion.

If everything seems fine and dandy with the shoes, call your veterinarian. There may be something else that is causing the problem or your horse may just need to be put on a diet.

my horse foundered. i say call your vet ASAP...i could only tell if i saw him....take him off of grass asap and put him in a stall w/ extra bedding in it. no more grain either....just hay....no alfalfa hay either...NO RIDING thats a defin. do that untill the vet comes or a VERY highly educated horse person. if hes having trouble walking... and like hopping on his front legs (it will look like his bag legs are going out...then i think he foundered...has cushins, or lamnitis...when was the last time the farrier came? 7 weeks is way to long. it should b 4-6. make sure ur farrier comes on a good schedule and try to loose weight off ur horse....no grain for about 2 weeks...only hay....and then give him sugar free grain

Get your smithy back immediately. With respect to vets, NO ONE knows more about horses feet than your farrier.

Could be the shoes are a little tight or he cut them back a little too far (thats when he spotted the old Founder lesions)
Whatever, he needs to come back and take a look. The first thing your vet would do would be to take the shoes off anyway.

I would call your vet as soon as you can so you can get an expert opinion. Maybe all your horse needs to do is to lose some weight.

I WOULD CALL BACK THE FARRIER, SOUNDS LIKE HE COULD BE CUT A LITTLE TOO SHORT AND IS SORE. I LIKE KEEPING MY HORSES BAREFOOT. WE RIDE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK AND THEIR HOOVES ARE IN GREAT SHAPE. I THINK YOU SHOULD TRY FEEDING YOUR HORSE LESS AND EXERCISING THEM MORE, ( ONCE THEY ARE FEELING BETTER) EXECESS WEIGHT IS VERY BAD FOR THEM.

You need to get a vet up immediately.
No one can make a decision on what is wrong with your vet online - so you need to get him checked out now - I hope hes ok. xx
