They are not a minority group. Now at first glance this may sound strange to everyone but the mexicans, blacks, jews and italians for some reason have a chip on their shoulders and think that even if they were born in the US and their families have been for generations they have to add another country to thier resume. What I think quirks my brain is if you were born in America then you are American. Born in England you are English. Born in Mexico you are Mexican, etc.

Referring to people as Afro-Americans is supposed to get over the race problem. Since an overwhelming number of US citizens are what the USA call Caucasians, and most Brits belong to this racial set, it is not necessary. This type of labelling has nothing to do with country of origin.
Strangely enough, Russia frequently refers to those people who originate from the Caucasus as 'blacks'.

This bugs me too. The cultural group you refer to are the ones who control America- The " Americans of European Descent".
My understanding is that "African Americans" like to be called this.
What I CAN tell you is that real Africans don't like black Americans calling themselves "African Americans"!!!
It's all just this "identity crisis" that Americans feel. America isn't really a unified country yet. They still have room to grow.. Unfortunately several million Mexicans have also noticed this fact.

Because we are proud to be americans.
Not interested in being separated into a group like all those that insist on having a hyphenated american.
Dont forget it was the hyphenated groups that wanted it that way.
Use to be everybody was proud to be an american.
