During the years where I would have gotten a good foundation for doing algebra, I missed a lot of school, I dropped out, got my GED. The problem is now that I'm in college, I'm taking a remedial class. My teacher made his own book which has no explanations...my notes dont even seem to be much like the homework assignments which are a big part of my grade unfortuantely. So can someone help
i have to make an equation and solve
Roy drives 20 miles per hour faster than Dan. It takes Dan 8 hours to drive a trip that Toy can drive in 6 hours. HOw fast does Roy drive?
Please Please help, if I know how to do this one, I can do the other ones.

To solve this kind of problem you need to assign letters to unknown values, represent all facts in text as equasions and finally solve those equasions. You also need some basic knowledge of physics. So:
V1 is Roy's speed, V2 is Dan's speed.
T1 - how much time it takes for roy to make the trip,
T2 - how much time time it takes for dan to make the trip
S - length of trip
We have:
V1 = V2 + 20 (Roy drives faster)
T1 = 6
T2 = 8
from physics we have that S = V1 * T1 and also S = V2 * T2
(length of trip is speed times time and it is the same trip, so only one S)
Therefore V1*T1 = V2*T2
together with the first equasion it gives
(V2 + 20)*T1 = V2*T2
insert numbers
(V2+20)*6 = V2*8
6*V2 + 120 = 8*V2
2*V2 = 120
V2 = 60
Dan's speed is 60 (so Roy's speed is 80)

Dude, its very simple.
Roy (R) drives at speed 20 miles/hour more than Dan (D).
So take,
R=D+20 miles/hour.----------------------(1)
Let the Distance travelled by both be X.
So, to travel X say miles , Dan takes 8 hours
and Roy takes 6 hours
hence,
Td=8 hrs
Tr=6 hrs
We know that both of them travelled the same distance
hence,
X=Td*(D)=Tr*(R)
take from (1) and substituting Td=8 and Tr=6
=> 8(D)=6(D+20)
=> 2D=120
=> D=60 miles/hour.
Similarly, R=D+20=80 miles/hour
Peace out.

First, you have to know this basic formula:
D=RT or Distance equals Rate multiplied by Time.
This means that the distance travelled by a moving body like a car is equal to the speed (meaning rate of travel) multiplied by the time it takes the moving body to travel the given distance.
Let x= the speed of Roy
Given: Roy drives 20 miles per hour faster than Dan
Therefore, x-20= speed of Dan
Also given: It takes Dan 8 hours to drive a trip (that means distance) that Roy can drive in 6 hours.
Therefore, distance travelled by Dan is his speed of (x-20)multiplied by 8 hours. or
D=(x-20)8
Also, distance travelled by Roy is his speed of x multiplied by 6 hours. or
D=x(6)
Now, do you agree with me that Dan and Roy travel the same distance? I will assume you will say yes.
Therefore,
(x-20)8=x(6)
8x-160=6x
8x-6x=160
2x=160
Dividing both sides of the equation by 2, we get:
x=80 miles per hour. That's how fast Roy drives.

Roy -.x miles per hour
Dan - y miles per hour
x-y=20 (first condition)
let distance be d
d/x=6 d/y=8
x=d/6 y=d/8
y/x=3/4
y=3x/4
x-3x/4 = 20
x/4 = 20
x=80 mph

i am not sure
but
Rate of person 1 divied by time
+
Rate of person 2 divided by time
= 1
So
if x = rate of Dan
then
Roy's rate = (x +20)
So
(x+20) / 6 + x/8 =1
once again, i'm not sure
hope i helped

Attendance is rather significant once you get to intense college. once you practice for college they look at your attendance for top college, once you practice for uni they look at your attendance for college, and once you practice for a job they look in any respect 3! If the attendance stages are low, you may conflict to get common, and in case you do a low attendance may additionally say lots approximately your attitude and dedication. you easily need to start up attending college, communicate on your mum and dad approximately your issues and notice in case you may take drugs/inhalers into college. For any days you do omit, you will desire to ask your instructors in regards to the artwork you ignored to proceed to exist song. stable luck:)
