Why are the buttons on women's and men's clothing such as jackets and shirts on different sides?? Also, and for the same reason, why do bras fasten at the back?

In the past, wealthy women have always had servants to help them dress, so the buttons were placed to make it easier for another person to help them.
Bras fasten at the back because the corset fastened at the back, and people tend to "go with what they know". There are a lot more bras being made with front closures now.

Because men used to be dressed by their valets, and it was easier for another person to do up the buttons when they are on the right hand side.

Bras fasten at the back? I'm thinking because men invented the bra and didn't put a lot of thought into it, perhaps they couldn't figure out how to make the clasps work between the breasts.

to tell a mans shirt from a womens,in the old days lablels didn't not say which and since the sizing is so different the changed the buttons, bras hook in the back to provide a continous underband, and better support, only in recent are the sports bra's with no hooks and front closing types,by the way howard hughes invented the underwire at his aircraft plant, for jane russell
