Give him water that has been boiled with some peppermint in it and cooled down a touch of Karo or sugar. Peppermint is good for it.
I had 4 children and younger bros. and sis. and lots of nieces and nephews, and now grandkids and none of them has gotten botulism. But the peppermint & a few drops of Karo helped.

I couldn't get my baby to burp well either early on. (I'd think she'd got all her burps out and then she'd cry or spit up all over the floor when I put her down.)

Whenever we were visiting though my Mom would find another burp after I was done EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!

Mom had a trick of starting patting low on the baby's back with each pat a little higher up to her shoulders. She'd repeat this pattern to work the bubbles upwards.

Trust a Mom of three to know the tricks of the trade. It always worked like a charm! (Thanks Mom!!)

The trick with the legs into the tummy is a common infant massage technique. I practiced infant massage on my daughter as well and this combined with a few other motions (I Love U ; Water wheel etc,) involving the ascending and decending colon helped to relieve tummy pains.

I bought this book and with colour photos and great descriptions it was really fantastic!!

I used Gripe Water. It is at the nature food store. What are you feeding him. If he is breastfed he might not be swallowing much air and the screaming could be from something else. IF you are using formula...maybe he is constipated.
Try different methods of burping. Put him in a sitting position and lay him back and then up to sitting again....or try laying him face down across your arm and walk around lightly bouncing...or lay him in a crib on his tummy.(I know the american academy of Piedatrics says not to) ..but if you are nervous about that...watch him....it will help air pass...
Also try feeding him a little and then burping him and then resume feeding.

Give them a warm bath ( if his cord has fallen off of course) or place a warm wash cloth on his tummy. His little butt muscle needs to relax and the warm water will help. with the bath just make sure his lower abdomen is submerged. Good Luck! :)

I know how you feel. My son wouldn't burp either and would just scream in pain. My doctor told me that I was over feeding him and under burping him. Now he has no problem burping or farting. I bounce him on my knee and he burps no problem. He still does not like to burp but I was told to not feed him until he burps. Now he stopps eating TO burp. It was hard to do but it is worth it in the end.

It is an english derived habit to do this and is not practised in rest of europe! The traditional ways are over your shoulder and rub his back or on his tummy over your knee

I used to either put them over my shoulder and burped them rather hard (patting relatively- for a bay- hard on the back. My mother in law used to draw soft circles on their backs---as if that brought up ANYTHING!), or I would lay them tummy down across my knees and bounce my legs up and down together - rising up and down on my toes.

One of the two usually worked.

A friend showed me that if you rocked them in your arms. side to side...not up and down... but instead of having them facing up to the ceiling you have them facing down to the floor and your hand is on their tummy- putting the pressure of their body against your hand- thus a little force on any air bubbles in their tummy. That this works for babies with gas pains.

Good Luck. babies with gas are so fussy.

Lay him on his back and gently push his legs up to his tummy and back down. Do this a few times. If he seems to be having a regular problem, then please see your doctor. Oh and be careful of using karo syrup-- there may be issues with botulism.

Rub his belly and pat him on the back. Or try bouncing him up and down slightly.
