My neighbors kids thought it would be fun to put afew gallons of water in some of the cars gas tanks people leave out over night as a joke well I got mine out fine but some of the subaru and pickup trucks the pump tube wouldn't go in enough to get the water out is there some sort of strainer inside some gas lines so as not to let large objects get in? we ended up taking the entire gas tank off afew and draining it that way and didn't see anything that should have blocked the pump tube.

Tanks usually have baffles inside them that stops the fuel slopping around inside as you drive around corners etc. Most fuel tanks also have a plug on the bottom that unscrews! ;-)

Possibly the tubing to get into the tank is longer on some cars than others?
The only knowledge I have on syphoning is kicking the a... of the jerk that syphoned $50 worth of gas out of my tank. 3 words for them "get a job".
Sorry I couldn't help more.
