Getting started on an essay can be one of the toughest things, especially at 3 am---here's a couple ways I've found to start breaking through the blocks.

Take your main points (your 2 are colonization and causes of AR) and start writing down, in 1-4 word "chunks", some big things that are relevant to these particular issues. Nothing fancy here--just phrases that help jostle your memory and fill out the overall picture. This might include things like major legal conflicts/acts or laws, important speeches, town foundations and settlements, really important people...stuff like that. Skim your books to flesh out the lists.

When you have a nice fat list, pour yourself a cup of coffee or Coke, take a few minutes, and start sorting---which items are the MOST IMPORTANT/relevant overall? Which pieces of information belong best together---they "fit together", either chronologically (by date), by geographic location, by type of data (e.g., if you're discussing economic issues, it makes sense to cover all that stuff together if you can), etc.

Is there any particular area that's REALLY grabbing your fancy? For instance, if your teacher wants five pages on this general topic and you're just fascinated by the role of the indentured person in colonizing America, can you concentrate mostly on this area? (You may need to clear it with the teacher---but DO ask. Most instructors would MUCH RATHER have a limited-scope paper written with passion, rather than a humdrum broad-purpose one. Remember, she/he has to READ anywhere from 20 to 40 of these essays; you only have to write ONE! Make it nice for both of you.)

Don't forget to footnote any direct quotes you use, and be sure to cite all references you use. You WILL need to learn footnoting/referencing, so might as well start now! Ask what style you're supposed to use if the teacher has not specified a certain one. If it's your option, I'd personally recommend American Psychological Association (the stylebook should be in your school library) because it's commonly used in the professional world and is pretty easy to handle. (Trust me. It really IS not too bad---and I've been through a master's thesis in psychology with it.)

If you get snagged up on looking up data, by the way, remember that librarians (school and public) are the Not-So-Secret Masters of of the Universe, because they control so much information. Feel free to recruit them for your purposes, nefarious or otherwise, and don't be shy! They did NOT go to college for all those years to learn JUST how to shelve books by Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress systems. Every librarian I've ever known LOVES to get people turned on to new books and research tools.

Good luck!

Im freshman! I just did this lol Write about Great Brittain sending people over to America, then making them pay ridiculous taxes and the Americans had enough. They wanted equal rights and prices as the Brittish had. But the King refused, so they declared war. With the help of the French, America beat the Brittish army

You're correct in that you shouldn't expect others to write your essay, so here is a hint to get you started.

The match that lit the American Revolution was the "Stamp Act".

Once you start to do some research on this topic, you'll realize your teacher isn't dumb.

First pick 3 main points. Write a main sentence, then a couple of sentences about how you will address your three main points. Then write a paragraph about each of those 3 points. Finally, write your concluding paragraph about why those 3 points were important then and how they have an impact on us today. Then you're done. Good luck.

Read the Declaration of Independence---it's not very long, and explains the reasons for the revolution quite graphically!
