Or are they different and opposite ? Do you think one word can have different meanings? What's the criteria then to identify the real meaning of the word ? Is it the decision of the Majority that is accepted ? and the minority dis agreeing are compelled to agree with it or get excommunicated ? Don't you think the Majority did a Blasphemy of the True Teachings of Jesus Christ and created the organised churches to get control over the Majority and suppress the Minority ? Is this the Dual between Christ and Antichrist ? Ultimately with whom the Ultimate Victory shall be With ? Is THAT going to be the beginning of a New Era of Lasting Peace rather than the hotched, potched Peace seen everywhere now ?

Jesus is the Christ. The church, though truely a place where 2 or 3 are gathered in His name, is the Body of Christ. The Church is also the Bride of Christ.

unlike buddha or mohammed, jesus as a historic person is far from ascertained...
which is a bit surprising giving the meticulous recordings the roman occupants were given to.
maybe he was no person at all, but a ficticious frontman of a whole movement of subversive liberationalists, using the spiritual power of their poeple to unite them in their cause...
be that as it may, jesus is more than a person anyway...but an epitome of the teachings alleged to him.

as a result the only source about him is the bible, which of course is strongly biased in this regard and therefor cannot be heard as witness here.
but even from what the bible tells about jesus, i have a shrewd feeling that he would have gone and lived in a hole in the ground, and never spoken to anyone again in his life, if he had known what his words would set in motion.

so my answer is NO they are not the same, no matter how many bible passages anyone quotes here. ( see above about bias)

"church" in the united states means tax free corporate entity. i don't think that has anything to do with peace or jesus. the majority want to believe they are right in their intollerance of others. intollerance of anyone elses beliefs goes way back to our founding puritans. interestingly enough john locke while attempting to establish separation of church and state refused to count the athiests because you need to a church to separate from the state. conveinently there were no religions other than sects of christianity to deal with while he was doing this or they more than likely wouldn't have fared well either.

"Anywhere two or more gather in my name there I shall be."

That is the definition of a church.

The Church is another thing entirely. The Church is God.
