This will be my first vacation or trip out of the city or state of Kentucky. I am looking for fun places to visit and that is not going to take a chunk out of my wallet either. I like all kinds of different things and one is I love old buildings. If you all could please pass on some suggestions and ideas. Please let me know and thanks a lot.

Go to Nashville, TN! It's so fun, has lots of history, and there's great music and many fun things to do and see. It's also not too far from where you are and will make a nice and cheap vacation (you can drive). The Belle Meade plantation is a historic home there that you can tour... besides other countless tours in the area... like the Hermitage nearby.

If you don't mind driving a little farther or taking a plane, I'd suggest Charleston, SC. It's beautiful and has tons of old mansions and houses to see. I think Savannah Georgia also has some historic homes.

Also, New Orleans French Quarter is really nice and they probably have some good deals since the hurricane. I hear the French Quarter wasn't harmed, so all of those sites are still there to see.

Of course, being a NYer, I'd recommend NYC, but it's expensive and probably a little intimidating for your first out-of-state trip. Maybe after you have the travel bug you'll come visit up here.

Have fun!
