I have 7+ years as a nurse in the area of OB-GYN. the best thing for nausea and vomiting as far as over the counter products go, vitamin B6 is the best thing. buy her a bottle and take it as directed on the bottle. and she should use this in addition to her prenatal vitamins. if it doesnt help, she can ask her OB doctor for an injection of Vit B6. offices do have it available, she should also keep saltine crackers beside her bed and eat a couple when she first gets up. having an empty stomach will make the nausea worse. she feels nauseous because when you first get pregnant levels of estrogen sky rocket and some women are sensitive to this. have her take the crackers wtih some sips of 7-up also. every morning before even getting out of bed. hope this helps. and yes the baby is still getting nutrition, as long as she is able to keep something down every day.

Keep track of her weight and call the doctor. If she can't keep anything down no matter how hard she tries, and vomits constantly then something needs to be done by her physician. A little weight loss may be normal at first but if it continues (with the nausea/vomiting) then she needs further care.
Usually, the baby takes all of the mom's nutrients...leaving mom worn out/tired. As mom's pregnancy progresses, however, the nutritional needs will be greater for baby and mom could run into serious trouble if she's still not gaining or able to keep food down.
Get her to the OB and make sure she's okay, and if you're not satisfied with the OB's answer - get a second opinion.

You need to take her for a checkup just to make sure. Vomiting is a natural thing during this stage of pregnancy. It is because of the fluctuations of hormones in her body. Women don't have to put on a ton of weight while being pregnant. Get some prenatal pills so both mother and baby are healthy. I suggest dry crackers set next to her bedside table. Eat a couple slowly before getting out of bed in the morning. That tends to ease the morning sickness. Have a cracker every now and then or oranges are another solution for later on in the morning. Most women have morning sickness the first few months of pregnancy and then it eases off in the second trimester and sometimes it returns during the last few months. I am so glad to see a husband being concerned for the well being of his wife and baby. It shows since you are the one who put up the question. May you both be blessed with a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

I hope your wife has talked to her OB/GYN about the vomiting, but it's normal during the first 3 mos. of pregnancy to have some vomiting. She should be getting over it soon, though, and if not she definitely needs to talk to her doctor. I found the best thing to eat was dry Saltine crackers and a clear soda like ginger ale. Good luck and take good care of her so you have a healthy baby.

it's normal and so is weight loss. just allow her to stock up on food & drink when she's least woozy. the baby will get it's nutrition regardless of the amount of her intake. pre-natal vitamins are also highly important.
