Google crawled my site on its own, and also I submitted the same URL in Google Base, what is the weightage that google gives in the search results for my page to show up in the search results? I asked Google and they didnt respond. Why should anybody have a sitemap at all? What is the advantage? Why should anybody submit their URLs in Google Base?

If you have a big site, it should help. But for a small site, it might not. Also if you update your site regularly (not just the index.html page but throughout) it should help. Just wondering why only google is taking this step ? Is yahoo or MSN doing something similar ?

If you have submitted your site-map, and you do update most of your we pages, it should benefit you. May be it takes some time for the google's web crawler to get to know your site, that you call it active and up-to-date!
