Cross has another meaning. You are always motivated in all your actions by "I" considerations. That is to say, mine, me, I want, I am, Myself, etc. This is the cause of all violence on this earth.
If you cut this "I" it becomes a Cross. It means the removal of self
which brings peace.

I think it's because it symbolizes two things of different direction and four different points meeting somewhere in the middle. This just depicts peace.
Or because Jesus being crucified on the cross, and then his resurrection brought peace to those who had faith in God. The feeling of peace was spread so widely around the world. they were told peace would be brought from their faith, after the slaying on the cross.

Who said it was a symbol of peace? If is a remembrance,if you will, of the sacrifice Jesus made for us-it is a symbol of the christian faith, but i really don't consider it a peace symbol.
