I believe those are right. Absolute value is nothing more than taking just the number portions out--no pluses or minuses.

1. 1.8

Any number in the | number here | lines is telling you to find the absolute value. Again, all pluses and minuses are dropped.

Absolute value is easy, just make the number positive. If the number is positive, it doesn't change. If the number is negative, make it positive. That's all there is to it.

The idea is that absolute value of a number is the distance away from 0 that a number is the number line. Since there's no such thing as a negative distance(you can't walk -2 miles), distance is always positive. Since distance is always positive, absolute value is always positive.

The absolute value of a number is the magnitude of the number expressed as a positive number. Simply put, if the number is -, make +. If it is +, leave it alone.
