I have a stump I think is a redwood that I need to remove completely as I need to put a dry well in the same spot. How deep do redwood stumps go? Do they have taproots? So far I have not been able to grind it out; it's too deep for that.

Drill a few holes in the stump and pour in "Stump Out", It decomposes the wood in a few weeks. Then drop in a match to burn the pulp. Nonexplosive, Dry Granular Formula.
1 Pound Can, enough for one Stump. Cost $5.99, Item #176185

You might find some "spotty" redwoods in the Big Sur area and in Muir Woods Nat Mon just North of SF. The most concentration of redwoods is in Northeast CA along the coast. They will be located at Redwoods National Park and a few CA state parks. Take the drive called the "Avenue of the Giants" The Redwoods start at Garberville, CA and go all the way to about 40 miles into Oregon from the CA border. It is in between these areas that you will see the most trees. Go to www.nps.gov/redw for more information. You can no longer drive through any Redwood trees inside the national or state parks but you can walk through a couple of them. Most people want to spend a lot of time outside their cars so why do you want to spend a lot of time inside your car? The best way to experience the Redwoods is to take a hike and walk in a Redwood forest and give those trees a big hug (your arms will have to be extremely long but it's fun trying) and take pictures of you standing along side one of these giants. So find time to get out of your car and and walk around. It's an experience you will never forget.
