a) run out of things to talk abt
b) trying to avoid an obvious yet difficult to talk abt topic
c) are trying to flirt with someone and they also might be flirting back but u both don't want to see too forward
d) might be a sign of an uncomfortable situation
e) a situationg where there is an obvious need for "small-talk"
