I suffer from depression myself. The littlest things can make me not want to do anything but lay in bed. It could be something someone said to me years ago that I for some reason remembered or if i see someone who i think is prettier than me. If i get in a fight with my hubby ANYTHING can trigger it. I would feel selfish when i got depressed and wonder what i had to be depressed about. started to see a therapist after my worst case when i tried to OD and it helped a lot. People without depression don't know or understand how it feels. They just think people with depression are crazy. it isn't something that can be wished or willed away. It is a chemical imbalance. I have a paper about it that my therapist gave me i will have to see if i can't find a site that is similar to it and post it on here.
Okay I found a site similiar to the peice of paper I have:

ahhh, i can relate entirely. However i know what has caused my shift of mood...hormones are completely out of whack due to birth control. So first...if you are on birth control, or have changed it recently...then you need to seriously consider getting off it and trying something else. Right now i am on Implanon (an implant put in your arm) and it has changed me from being a happy, sociable, happy go lucky person into someone who has massive mood swings, depression, continual out of control crying...well i think you get the picture. So that would be the first peice of advice. If this doesnt fit with you then i would go and see a doctor to prescribe an antidepressant. That wouldnt be a bad thing. It just means again that your body is experiencing a chemical imbalance and you just need to get your body re-balanced. Not a big deal. My boyfriend it doing that right now. Its harmless and would make you feel heaps better. It would make you feel as though you dont have to bust your brains out anymore. Cause trust me i know the feeling. Take action rather than continue to sit at the bottom of a black hole that you feel like your all alone in.

It may be the breakup and what he said. Broken relationships can cause depression. Depression is anger directed inward. Other causes can be biological in nature, such as hormone imbalances. Hypothyroidism is a common example. It's likely that the breakup is the cause. I've been there and it took me 4 years to get over my first breakup. It also takes time to overcome depression, there's really no timeframe since everyone's different. I hope that helps and I'm sorry that you're going through this.

This weather has been too good to sit around & feel depressed. Get creative and get involved in arts & crafts to take your mind off of being sad. Usually creativy is good for anyone and will help you to get your frustrations out in a safe and non-combative way. Also I felt that way when I was in 7th grade and a teacher had us write a poem for an assisgnment and until this day I will jot something down on paper no matter if it sounds corny or stupid or whatever but I can proudly say that one of my poems was published. So you see everything happens for a reason. Trust God.....

Don't isolate urself, you have to keep moving on with renewed vigor. You left someone because they didn't like you enough to stay with you. There are good hotlines out there for you to call and people to help you. Depression is very hard on someone and I know I one suffered from it and thought the worst thoughts. Call a hot line, they can really help. If the person u were with decided to leave you, than to bad for him, there are much better out there to meet. Also don't be afraid to talk to ur mother, she may be able to help you not maybe as a parent but as one of ur best friends now that ur 18, don't be afraid

i have read through your Q's and A's and I would have to say that you are just a typical 18 year old girl who is going through somee changes. You seem to want to find out about what is going on in others minds and I would have to say that is because you want to know if what you are thinking is normal. You should be out of this stage of your life by the time your 22. In the mean time where do you want to be ten years down the road? You need to set some goal's for yourself and start taking steps to make them happen. It will give you higher estem about yourself. Also try to avoid issuse that upset you.

Anything traumatic events in life can trigger off an episode of depression. If your condition is worsening or you began to feel suicidal, then seek professional help from a counsellor or psychologist. I have had episodes of depression before too but with time, counselling and medication I managed to overcome it. If you seek help from a mental health professional, it doesn't mean that you are crazy or insane. Sometimes we are just born with this chemical imbalances within us, and it takes something nasty such as a breakup, death, retrenchment, exam failure or divorce to trigger off the symptoms. Don't be afraid to seek help from your friends or family. If you delay it, your condition might get worse, and you might get clinical depression. Seek help while you still can. Cheer up. :)

If you don't like depression, use your imagination to break the spell. See youself inside a rocket about to launch, feel the vibration inside the cabin and hear the roar of the engine, know that this powerful rocket is going to propel you way above depression. As soon as it leaves the ground feel the relief. Life is too important and too precious to waste it by feeling depressed.

Don't isolate yourself. Thsi is a time when you need to reach out to those who care about you and ask for help. You are depressed and depression is an illness, but a curable one. You are not going to figure this one out on your own, so you must find someone (relative, friend, counselor) who can give you some guidance.

I have been having alot of problems, cant sleep not eating or wanting to go out and have to deal with all the people we were frinds with, just people period! its hard to get passed it but you gotta make your self understand that you are better off and that hes not worth your time, sitting there feeling sorry for your self isn't gonna make anything better you need to just get out and have fun you are still young baby girl! live life dont get stuck out like i did, at your age i was already a house wife! Live everyday as it were your last and make the most of it! Dont spend it wondering why he "hates" you he probly doesnt it was just something to say to hurt you, and you are letting him win by allowing it to get under your skin and run your life! Theres always gonna be someone that doesnt like you but whats important is that you love your self enough to say the h*ll with them!
