I take a daily multi-vitamin. Are they a good weight loss method? I've heard some people say vitamins aren't effective for overall health.

Vitamins per se are not by themselves a consideration for weight loss.

Weight loss is simple however. If you eat fewer calories than you consume you will lose weight.

I have personally found the Zone diet proposed by Dr. Barry Sears a diet that is not to difficult to follow and avoids being hungry while eating under 1500 calories a day

There's opposing sides to that. But what is the harm in taking it? If you don't get enough nutrition from your diet throughout the day, you don't have to worry much. There are good benefits overall, especially for women.

It doesn't really effect much for weight loss, but it goes well with exercise and eating healthy.

Vitamins alone won't help you lose weight. For example - if you are taking a multivitamin and drinking water...not eating all day...sure you'll lose weight, but you'll lose muscle - not fat.
If you want to lose fat, you eat less calories than you burn.
Vitamins are necessary for all bodily functions, from cell repair to infection fighting, and deficiencies in vitamin intake can cause health problems.

This is not a good way to lose weight, more like a great way to make yourself sick.

They wouldn't help you to lose weight. The only way to do that is to eat regular, balanced meals and exercise often. They do help a little with overall health, but they are no "miracle cure" for all of life's problems!
