a liar tends to re-word the question instead of anwering it - "what do you mean ;why didn't i tell you'?" this is a way of buying time to help think up a lie

body language. if Jason is always in such a good mood, and always says "Hey!" but today he hardly noticed you, he's probably thinking that he's going to have to lie today. liars also get over-defensive, sometimes not realizing that they don't need to prove every little thing.

a liar will make a big thing out of something insignificant.

a liar swallows a lot. because they swallow their saliva more, their mouths are usually drier. you'll see Jason going to get a can of sprite after your conversation.

not making eye contact is an obvious, but you also have to know what kind of memory a person has. if it's something that you actually DO have to think about, they'll need time to remember details. this will also give time for creating lies. for myself, i've got an audible memory. i remember by sound (yea, i *know*! the color purple sounds so freaking weird! ok, heh, it doesn't go that far..), and since i remember by sound, mostly, i'd look to my right or left to try to remember things. a visual person might look up. a liar will try to hide that they are looking in a direction while they think. they'll try to look you in the eye while they think, which nobody really does

Avoiding eye contact is one sign as people pointed out, but some people know that and they try to keep eye contact when lying, but then they try to look you in the eye all the time, that's not natural either. Normal eye contact takes a short moment and then the eye wanders on. So you have both - if they either avoid eye contact OR have too long eye contact, then their lying.
Another sign of lying is touching something on your face - like scratching a nose or picking at eyebrow - he's subconsciously trying to hide his face that way.

Their behavior under normal circumstances changes substantially, ie:

- Pitch of their voice
- Eye Contact
- Body Movements
- Body Language
- Speed of Talking
- Tone of voice

A lot of differences can be heard through the voice. Whether or not the person makes eye contact depends on the person's normal behavior with eye contact.

They touch with their finger, the left side of their face, usually they always touch the nose though. That is a sure-fire way to detect a lie. Often, they have to think before answering your questions, they pause for a minute. They may also ask you to repeat your inquiry again several times during the conversation. Main thing though girl, watch that finger go to the left side of their nose or face, you got em, they are being very dishonest with you. Remember that.

Have you ever noticed when friends tell stories or accounts, there are a lot of random details? We cant help this when our minds are overloaded with information. So its possible that the opposite is true; when a story is too oversimplified, it could be a lie.

Most people will say that a liar will not look you in the eye. If they are an accomplished liar.. they will look you dead in the eye... to throw you off track.. since they know most people think this. Their voice will be slightly different than it usually is.. so listen carefully.. and they will be defensive.

you can tell by their heart.. if they have a good heart they will show you by all the signs others stated.. like no eye contact.. fidgeting etc.. but if the person does not have a good heart.. consider everything they say is not the truth.. :)
