In my mind, a friend is someone who will always stand by you through thick and thin. Someone who will bail you out of jail if they aren't in with you, go with you to uncomfortable functions just so you have someone else to talk to and bring you chicken soup when no one else will go near you for fear of germs! A friend will laugh with you and cry with you, and always be there when you need them, however small the crisis!

Here is how I catagorize mine though...

Casual friends - pals, work buddies, stuff like that

Close friends - people you know well, you grew up with them, etc.

Brothers/Sisters - Like family, do anything for them kinda people
