When I examined myself today, my scar is jagged and puckered, not smooth, and my vaginal opening seems larger than before. Before I see my doctor, I would like an opinion about the expected size of my vaginal opening and the state of my perineum. Will these changes last?

A tear will have somewhat jagged edges and puckers. Because it's a tear. An episiotomy would have been neater, and also a lot more painful and more difficult to heal.

Your vaginal opening most likely looks larger due to changes in the hymen associated with the birth, and because you just had a baby a few months ago! Very normal. If it feels larger to you during intercourse, you can try kegal exercises.

The best person to ask would be your OBGYN. A third degree tear is when it tears through 3 layers.

When I had my daughter, I had 4th degree tearing (lots, and lots of layers to stitches, it actually ended up on my buttcheek.

But even with the bad tearing, 3 years later, my vagina isn't that big. I still see scarring, but my vaginal open got smaller with time.

Just do Kegel's and stuff.

i had a second degree tear with my first borderline third degree, it didnt heal ok and wasnt stitched suited so i had al ot of complications and became petrfied of it happening in my second labour. i only had a tiny tear with my second labour didnt even choose stitches, i recovered interior of a week too, so for me second labour became a lot a lot less complicated and larger suited. there is continually a probability of tearing again with a second toddler yet no longer continually, communicate on your midwife about it and what they recommend yet i wouldnt make any judgements till youre complete time period, there are positions you'd be in to assist circumvent tearing badly again or as stated have a c-seciton if it could be a lot less complicated for you. i'd not in any respect sense sorry about a organic delivery after a foul tear, its all extremely worth it and heals ultimately.

I had a third degree tear. Was in pain for 3 months. I was ripped all the way into my butt.
Now baby is almost 6months and all is well. Still have some pain during sex, but everything shrunk up again.
best of luck
