I have a 1990 Chevrolet Camaro RS. It won't even turn over. Here's what's been going on... Recent mods to it have been making the air cleaning system an open element and installing an SLP exhaust with a high flow cat. My EGR valve isn't functioning properly and my idle was very unsteady and the Camaro was stalling. While the car was on, we disconnected the vacuum hose that leads from the EGR solenoid to the EGR valve to see if it would make a difference. The car eventually stalled out again, and when we tried to turn it back on it wouldn't even crank. We have the alarm on the car disconnected, but I noticed that the alarm light is now constantly steady instead of flashing slowly. Could my car not be starting because of some sort of anti-theft device? Any other reasons, other than a blown starter that you all can think of?

I forgot to mention that we changed the spark plugs yesterday to Splitfire which have always worked well with our Camaros.

Also, it's a 5.0 TBI.

Battery definitely isn't out because everything else turns on. All the fuses are fine... Don't know where else to look!

If the light on your alarm is constant red, it is not un-powered. Try taking it out of valet mode. That is what the red solid light means. There are two common ways a "starter kill" works. E-Mail me for more. I honestly think the alarm is the culprit if it will not crank.

You may want to check all of the fuses related to the alarm system and also any pertaining to the starter. Heck you may want to also make sure the battery terminals are clean and have a good solid connection. Check the power wire and ground to the starter to make sure they havent come loose. Lastly try to give it a jump. I know that may all sound very silly but that is where I would start before spending any money.

I would not buy anything until you troubleshoot! Try disconnecting the alarm and if that dose not work move on. Unneeded parts get expensive check all the fuses. It is hard not actually being in front of the car.

try batter cable connections, and try replacing your battery cables. If you want to check your starter. Then pull it out and hook up jumper cables to a battery and check it that way.

I'm no fan of splitfire plugs so I am wondering if you have a loose battery connection or just bad plugs
