Usually there is a one game playoff but the Padres beat the Dodgers in their regular season play. Even though they both had the same record... SD beat LA 9 out of 16 times this year. (I think that is about right.) If they had tied on wins and losses between the two , like 8-8 then there is a one game playoff on Monday.
But I am glad to announce that LA will be playing the ailing Mets...
Think Blue...Dodger fans... think blue.

Actually the Padres were 13-5 against the Dodgers this season. They pretty much owned them all year long until the 9th inning of the last game. Then every fluke and bit of luck in the universe converged at Chavez Ravine to help the Dodgers do something we've never seen.
In any case, the previous posters are correct. The Padres get the NL West title because of the season series tie-breaking rule.
The same rule was applied last season between the Yankees and the Red Sox. The two teams had identical records, but the Yanks had taken the season series. That gave the Yanks the AL East title and the BoSox had to settle for the AL Wild Card.

the pads do take the division title b'cuz if u were a fan of the sport or either team, u'd know that unfortunately the pads beat the dodgers during the regular season, so they hold the tie breaker. Im a Dodger fan & believe me, i wouldve loved for the dodgers to take the division (i was all x-cited when the d'backs hit the back to back homeruns against hoffman to make it 7-6) but how can u say that the pads have the worst record, HELLO, both dodgers & the pads have the same record. . . . . that being said, all that matters to me is that the Dodgers made the playoffs, wild card or not, they're there, so anything can happen now.

There are various tie-breaking strategies (like 10 + easily), in spite of the undeniable fact that it would help in case you advised us what branch the communities have been in. If i'm not wrong, head-to-head is the 1st tie breaker. in the event that they're in a similar branch, then the branch checklist concerns besides. Even "factors scored" is a tie-breaker, and so is "worry-free combatants" performed. in the event that they performed a similar communities, whomever has the extra desirable checklist against a similar communities might bypass. So, there are a number of tie-breakers and the final one is nicely a coin turn! Ive published the hyperlink for the respected NFL tie breaking strategies!

New rules!
In the event of a tie, they go back to the series that the two teams in question had and whom ever won the series, whens the tie.
PADRES!!!
