I am a slow reader too, so I know what you are talking about. What helped me the most was I took a local class during the summer on how to read faster. They gave me tips that really helped. One was not to dwell on words you don't know. Just try to get the general meaning of the sentence and move on. Another was underline the words with your fingers, it is supposed to help you keep your focus on the page. I hope those tips helped. By the end of the class, I could read 300 words per minute. It helped me, but I also took the time to practice. So put in a little effort and it is amazing what can happen!

Read fast to get the main idea quickly? If so, then before you will read something, you should open open the book and scan that what this book is about, see the content, the subjects. Then start reading.

There are 2 ways to read fast.

1. Skimming--this way, you don't have to read all the words or sentences, maybe u read this sentence and then come to the other next sentences in the next line. But this way, just help you to see the whole point of the article but you will not understand the article 100% percent.

2. Scanning--this way is just to find the information you want, not concern about the whole point of the article. Or this way, is to read after you finish your reading and want to make yourself understand the article better. How to do scanning is you see the article quickly and remember what information you're looking for.

And for sure if you want to read it quick, you have to practice.

When I started college we were taught to cut out the words you don't need to read. Just read the nouns and verbs. Just read what is happening and what is doing it. You don't normally need to know if it was blue and furry or had peeled paint on it; you just need to know the basics.

There is allot missing in speed reading. If you speed read a book like harry potter, you would know the storyline but you wouldn't have taken the time to really read what harry looked like or how he felt when he cast his first spell (that is stuff you would have jumped over).
