"just because you have a degree, it doesn't mean you know any better?" how would you interpret that and how would you handle this situation.

Let's say you just got hired and your manager who never went to college therefore never got a degree tells you the above

Just smile...and begin plotting to take over his job, then have him fired. With your college degree, you should be able to accomplish this within the next 6 months.

Go get him, tiger!

Unless you are in a specific field, all a college degree says is that you have put your mind to something and finished it. It gets your foot in the door where as many doors would be shut. Percentages says that college grads are for the most part better workers, but there are many sucessful people who did not get one. These people are becoming fewer as the tech world is taking over. By the way, most people work in fields that they have no degree in. It is all on the job training. Being in the restaurant industry, my college employees are much better than the ones that never went to college. College students as a whole do not live day to day but have goals that keep them stable in the workplace. On the other hand, we have many partners that make over 100k a year without a degree. In America you can acheive anything as long as you work hard for it and make good decisions.

Depends on the situation.

I have three degrees but understand the school of hard knocks and experience is often a better asset.

Also, during my military deployment. (Navy) If you didnt listen to the opinion of the NCO's, you were at a serious disadvantage. The enlisted personnel run the fleet. If a Chief offers a strong opinion about something, a wise man would take notice and consideration.

the degree of degree is relitive a docters degree is a qualification of minimal standard to do docter description ,but is a docter any docter a healer,
a degree is a base understanding a degree in plumbing is a degree that prevents him saying he is a docter
i have no degree i would accept that this guy or girl has a degree of knowing about a given thing and take it a oppinion ,thank him/her to a certain degree ,and ask him to make more clear what degree of compitance he disagrees with my degree about.
i would say a guy who has done a job knows his job ,and the degree that you disagree reveals the degree majored in allowed no disagreement ,thus to a certain degree was disagreeable to getting a job.
theory is a wonderfull thing what is a masters or an honours degree based on.

Maybe you should swallow your pride a bit and listen to him, being your boss. He may have a point. Everything....like experience can not be learned in a school. Some people think that a degree takes the cake so to speak when it takes experience, personality and a drive to do the best to make it on top.

Lets be honest, how many folk do you know that went to Uni and achieved a degree and don't use them in their working life? That to me is just stupidity. Why would you spend 3-5 years learning about something only to work in a completly different capacity? I'll bet the 20K student debt seems worth it now. It is not difficult to get a degree and some folk seem to think the world owes them a wage if they have one. I would agree with your boss, he is obviously a grafter himself.

There are degree's in certain fields that matter. I have been in management before and no degree really helps. Ya have to have common since.. and that is not taught anywhere.

I will assume he has a very high inferiority complex due to your degree certificate. He may be feeling you will out smart him in the office so he is trying to belittle what are your merits. Take a low profile in the normal work, time will prove who is better.
