question everything, you live in a country where u can question everything. our government takes advantage of us. they know we as americans will not do anything. look at other countries, the government tries to pull something stupid, and the people will riot. here in the states, gas prices could have gone up to like 10 dollars a gallon and americans would have continued paying it. if no one says anything, than the government will step all over u. just remember following your government blindly and naively is what led nazi germany to murder hundreds of innocent people.
get involved, speek out, and fight. that is our rights as americans

Of course it is not good for us not to trust our government but that trust should be an open-eyed trust. It is not as it were that once we vote a government to power we can forget about governance fill the next elections come around. It has been well said that elections are a five year alternative to civil war. So if the engagement is to come after five years is it not our duty to keep our arms in tact.We are not spoiling for a civlil war but only suggesting the government that we know what is happening and we don't like it.Had somebody from among us not exposed the fraud in the Tonkein Bay, Nixon's machinations and more recently Bush's tricks we would have by now backslided by half a century. So as they say believe in your friend and certainly your government but keep the powder dry and the gun at hand. This realisation itself will keep the government on to the straight and narrow path laid down by the mandate.

A very big issue discussed very heavily & at length amongst the founders was how to set up a government that was going to be filled with humans, humans who were basically untrustworthy. There were no illusions amongst the founders about the foibles & folly to which humans are prone. For instance, the checks & balances idea grew out of that - how do we get the gov't to watch itself?
Unfortunately the intention has been distorted by the misuse of partisan power that has seriously warped the 3 branches, especially congress.
If you don't like politics or are not interested that's OK. There's a big world to turn your time & energy toward & politics is only one small slice. But naivete' is not an option, and ignorance does not lead to happiness.

It is always right to have a healthy skepticism about politicians and their methods. We should keep asking questions and understand as much as we can without necessarily becoming too dismissive of everything they try to achieve and think life is one long conspiricy!
Two things I know; Watergate happened because those at the top thought they would either not get caught or would not be punished if caught, and none of us would know anything about it if 2 jounalists had not kept digging for the truth.

As so often before, liberty has been wounded in the house of its friends. Liberty in the wild and freakish hands of fanatics has once more, as frequently in the past, proved the effective helpmate of autocracy and the twin-brother of tyranny.

I think our government has given us more than enough reason not to trust them. We should not try to live out our lives naively--that would be a mistake.

To put trust in our government is our right. It is the people that runs it are the ones that we should not trust.

We elect people who are supposed to represent our best interests.
They are SUPPOSED to be better informed as to make the best decisions on our behalf.
