i'd like to relocate to a small town in va/ky/wv. the only real requirements are good education for my kid,and inexpensive home prices - i'd like to buy a house on several acres, high speed internet available, and low crime rate. a rural/small town is fine. 25,000 population and lower. low cost of living is key. moderate climate with less than 12" of snow a year would be nice...

I live in Smithville, TN which is about 60 miles from Nashville, we have about 18,000 people here in our county, crime is very minimal and we get maybe a foot of snow a year if we're lucky. Cost of living is very easy here believe it or not. Alot of people hate it but I like the peace, everyone drives about 25 miles to Cookeville with a fairly large town with nice restaurants and such but our town has its share of restaurants not to mention a fine Mexican restaurant. We have a Wal-Mart, several "mom and pop" shops, ect. ect. High speed internet is available countywide now. I like it here. We also have several elementary schools and a middle and high school.

In northern WV, I would check out Preston County. It's in the mountains, in between Morgantown (home of WVU) and western Maryland. Also close to Uniontown, PA. Preston County is rural, low crime, but they do get a lot of snow since it is in the mountains! Other places to check out would be Marion County (Fairmont, WV) or Taylor County (Grafton, WV). In the country, but still close enough to restaurants and shopping.

Morgantown is the new 'it' town in WV, and it's booming. However, home prices are outrageous there. It's best to live outside and commute, like I do.
