Hi,
I started submitting resumes 2.5 months before I found my current job (I love it).
Try making a complete and well written resume. It will take from 1-3 hours. After this, register and make it public on monster.com and careerbuilder.com.
If you have not went to college or have certification, make a functional resume. Emphasize your experience, rather than your education (or both).
Try looking for positions in temp agencies (many positions hire after a couple of months).
Also, try looking in industries you would have never thought of, e.g., your customer service experience could land you an insurance industry job.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

Accounting and bookkeeping is a good field to be in. So many small businesses need you.

As for me, my current job found me. A gal I knew asked me at a barbecue if I'd like to paint her building. Before the paint job was done, I was told I was being hired for tax season. Two weeks into tax season, they asked me if I would be willing to move to get my own store. Last day of tax season I was told where I would be moving to. Never filled out an application. No background check. The only things my boss knows about my job history is what I've let drop from time to time. She has NO IDEA. :)

I didn't look for my current job, my company was recommended to me by my cousin, also an employee. After I applied it took about 5 weeks to get an interview. I was hired at the interview. The last couple of weeks I was pestering them every single day for an interview. I joke that they interviewed me just to get me to stop calling. I took the job for the terrific benefits and have been there for 6 1/2 years. I hope to retire from this company.

looking for a job can take a week to a month, even more at times.

this all depends on your experience in the field, then a big factor is how you sell yourself at the job interview. if they like your personality the energy your bringing, and you have a mutual positive vibe you usually get hired. it all depends on how you play it during your interview.

you should also try to make as many contacts in the accounting arena for job leads.

you should research job interview tactics and you should be on your way.

good luck, hope this helped...
