For an HR position, how important is the candidate's GPA? In terms of their education, what are you looking for when you consider an applicant for an HR position?

I'm in my final semester with a 3.68 cumulative GPA in HR, but my Corporate Finance Course may not fare so well. All of my HR classes are A's.

Guess thats a fifty-fifty situation. GPA shows a person's dedication to something(four yrs in school aint easy) and probably their drive. But that shouldn't be all you're looking at- try to fit their personality to the job. People can be really smart but not outgoing-not so good for a HR position. So, judge people by overall appeal, not really a transcript alone.

GPA is a gauge of the candidate's academic background.

For HR positions, the person's track record is more important. As long as the candidate meets the entry criteria (eg Diploma / Degree depending on the seniority), the CV's worth a second look.

HR is a position where people of the organisation will come in contact with, hence the character, people skills and the ability to enhance the corporate culture is above the paper qualications.

As for CGPA, it's EXTREMELY important... Just make sure the possible candidates are at least a 2nd class upper (cgpa >3) but those with a 1st class pointer (cgpa >3.5) are the cream of the crop... Hire those whose graduated especially from the HR course but those with a general BA degree are also acceptable...

More important than GPA is people skills and attitude with a solid liberal arts background and plenty of common sense.
