I got him from my boyfriends sister, they had to get rid of him because he was "eating" the females? (sounds a little strange to me, I thought only males fought) I believe he is full grown. He looks about...8 inches long. I feed him canned food. However, he will NOT eat the canned crickets. I've tried. But he just...picks them up & spits them back out. He did however, eat one. But he LOVES the canned worms. They look pretty small to me. & he will eat as many as I put out. I've been feeding him 10 at a time, once a day. Is that too much or too little??

Also, he is very aftraid of me. I will put my hand in the cage for a while untill I think he is used to it, then gently try to pet him. But most of the time he runs & hides. Does anyone know how I can get an adult gecko to actually like me & let me handle him?

You would do better to order your meal worms direct from a source like Timberline or Flukers. Can be purchased 1000 at a time and get much more for the money than canned. Mealworms and also come in many sizes. For an 8 inch Leopard gecko, it should be eating the giant mealworms. The gecko will quit eating when full. They generally prefer live food over canned. Very easy to produce your own mealworms. Just keep a potato piece in the container and when it dries out, replace it with another. Sounds like the Leopard Gecko is not mean, just shy. If it was mean, you would have been bitten by now. Gently pick up the lizard by the middle of the body and set it on your arm. They generally do not run away fast. It will get used to sitting on you. Always use Germx or wash up good after handling to prevent salmonella.
