How do i get rid of where it says how many unread mail messages i have when i log onto my user account ?

when i log onto my user account for my COMPUTER.

You can download TweakUI from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp and when installed go to Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI - then go to Logon>Unread Mail - disable it in the right hand pane.

Otherwise the Unread Mail can be disabled via the Registry - navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ UnreadMail\ [Youremailaddress], <---- intentionally putting spare after \, otherwise it won't display correctly. So delete those space if you copy.
double click on 'MessageCount' - in the right hand pane - and change the
value to 0(Zero).

My wager is you have MSN Messenger. for this reason, once you sign into your computer account, after logging into MSN, sign off and click "overlook Me" or untick the container "undergo in recommendations me in this computer". i desire this helps.
