I'm looking at scott's stuff and don't even see a pre-emergant. Plus 2 looks like a post, so what do you suggest for a lawn pre-emergant?

I would check and purchase any of the Scotts products. I have a friend that swears by Scotts and her lawn is the talk of her neighborhood.

Pendimethalin is probably the most known and used preemergent herbicide. When you are looking for a preemergent herbicide, look for that active ingredient (pendimethalin) and you will be in good shape. (Scotts Halt product contains pendimethalin.)

I also have to mention that depending on where you live will also determine the type of herbicide you will be putting down. Certain grasses are very susceptible to herbicide damage, like St. Augustine, so you have to be careful and apply at the rate the bag recommends!

Scotts with Halts is the Scotts product. Others will say something about crabgrass prevention on the bag. You usually put it down in the spring but it can be used in the fall if you have annual bluegrass to control.

We have used Casoron with great results for years - it is granular.
However, I would not use it on a lawn as you want the grass to reseed itself over time as well.

Corn gluten is a great organic pre-emergent.

I think Preen is the best. Sprinkle it liberally in your beds in the spring---at about the same time that forsythia is coming into bloom.
