I would either like to find out more information about getting funding for the idea, getting protection so no one takes the idea or if I just want to start from scratch and fund the idea myself. I guess I am just lost and need some help. Thanks in advance.

The 1st thing you have to do is go to the patent office and make sure it is actually a new invention.
Just because something isn't in the stores doesn't mean it hasn't already been invented.
Once that's sorted you need to do market research to check there will be demand.
From there you draw up a business plan and either take this to the bank or to possible investors.
