My daughters both want I-Pods for Christmas...I don't know anything about them...Where do you get the music for them? I have a bunch of music on my computer...can I just put them on there... or do they have to be certain file types. How do they compare to mp3 players?? I don't know much about this stuff!!

I love my iPod, it's a 60gig. Of all the MP3 players, iPod is a little pricey, but it is so easy to download music to it. It's very user friendly, yes, you can download the tunes you have on your pc already, iTunes can change any type of music file into an MP3 for the iPod (Apple lossless). These files once converted can still be burned onto cd's (iTunes gives you the option of burning cd's as MP3's or as Audio<-- regular music file).
I've dealt with other MP3 players & they all pretty much use Windows Media which really is the worst for downloading, burning & copying music (to cd or to mp3 player).
You'll be amazed how easy it is to use the iPod. I highly recommend getting an iPod no matter what size.

An ipod is basically an mp3 player made to work with itunes. If you dont have itunes on your computer, you can download it for free at www.apple.com. the advantages of an ipod over normal mp3 players like sony and phillips, is that it is very easily accessorized. this means that cases are not only easy to find but come in countless textures, colors, and styles. If your daughters like listening to a huge variety of music, then ipod video 30GB or 60GB would be the best, if they prefer to only listen to the most recent or popular music, either ipod nano or other brands of mp3 players would be better. also, if they have easy access to a computer, you probably wouldn't have to get as large of capacity (megabytes=mb gigabytes=GB) as you would if they would have to be satisfied with the songs they have on there for a while. depending on the quality you choose to have the music on the ipod, 1min of music usually takes up about 0.75megabytes or 750,000bytes of storage space to have the equivilant of CD quality sound playback on the ipod. if you have a best buy store nearby, I recomend going there and asking them about them, especially now that they're teamed up with geeksquad, they're extremely helpful, i give you props if you can go there and stand in any one department for 5mins without getting asked if you need help at least once. Good luck, hope this helps.

You get the music from itunes. It's a program that you download for free and you pay $.99 a song for the downloads. If you have music on your computer already, once you download itunes it will automatically add them to your itunes. MP3 players all do the same things as far as music goes. With ipod, accessories are easy to find and you can usually put videos and/or pictures on them.

An i-pod is an MP3 player. If your music is already in MP3 format you will be able to tranfer it easily to your ipod.

You will need to use Apple iTunes to tranfer the songs to your new iPod. You can also use iTunes to purchase new music or to transfer your existing CDs to the iPod.

As for which iPod to get, I am partial to the iPod nano due to its size. Plus it uses flash memory which is much less fragile than the hard drives found on regular iPods.

The drawback of the iPod nano is that it cannot play movies (also sold via iTunes).

whatever you get them do not get them a ipod nano they are faulty! you get the music off any place you can download mp3's as ipods dont play wma files or any other type of music files it might be an idea to get hold of a ligitamate copy of nero (because it can convert music files to mp3's) because if you are on the net they can get you in so much trouble for copyright and all that rubbish hope you hsave a great christmas with you kids you seem like a great mum

I have a 30 Gig. Its too big. I will never use up all the space. It's pointless to watch videos on it because it will only last about 2 hours just for video only. You download a program called I-tunes. You can put your own music cd's in the program or you can download music off the site. 99 cents a song or you can buy entire cd's. Be sure to back up any Cd's you buy from the Itunes site.

it depends, if they listen to music ALOT, then get'em a full size, if they want video too, get'em that. if they just like music and are'nt trying to just sho off to their frenz, mini (itz cheap but good). if they just like music and like slick, cool things, a nano should do it.

as for the music, you can get it once you get the ipod, install the software and you can get the songs/videos off the music store.
if you already hav music, you can click and drag the music into the "library"

i dont know much about the files, but most r okay.

regular mp3 players are good, but not as efficient (judging by my expirence)
