Me and this girl usually talk on the home every nite 2-4 hours. She said she's kinda quite and so am i but when we talk on the fone we jus start rambling. There's usually not a long silence but when there is we talk about randon stuff........my question is how do i start a good conversation and if i ever feel like silence is coming up how do i solve that problem?

First talk to her about practicing with you to be comfortable in silence. You don't always need to talk.

Now, work on your own language like signing or something cool between you both for those quiet times.

Finally, ask open ended questions about her. Ask things like...
what was your happiest moment? What is your favorite color and why?

First, do not be afraid of silence. These moments can give you time to catch your breath and think of the next words or subject you would like to direct the conversation.

Second, conversation is a three step process. You have a sender of a message, a receiver of the message, and then verifying understanding of the message sent. If you want to learn the other persons views on a subject the best way to begin a conversation is open with a question that is not a yes or no question. For example, I ask my son how was your day? He states, "Same ole same ole mom." End of conversation. Yet if I ask him, "How did you do to day in school and what was your favorite event that happened today?" I will get a more detailed answer giving me room to ask more exact questions and then he will usually ask how my day was or what did I do today. Ta da, a conversation.

Ask questions, don't worry about silence it just means you are catching your breath or thinking.

Perhaps you could slow down on the frequency of talking on the phone with that girl, so you would have new things to talk about. Have you ever thought that when there is a silence in the conversation and you can't find anything else to say, the best thing to do would be to wish her good night. After let's say 4 hours, perhaps, she's tired ?

You are doing just fine...........

Silence doesn't have to be the kiss of death. Some "silences" CAN allow previous words the opportunity to sink in. Two to four hours a night you are talking? Good LORD man, what are you hoping for? 3-6???????

RELAX............she is as nervous as you are.

There is no perfect conversation or approach. BUT there is YOUR conversation & YOUR approach. It is good enough!
