every now and again a face comes floating up out of my past, but it usually comes with a feeling of nostalgia, not regret.

Absolutely! Like you, I feel like I let it slip away and have the rest of my life to regret it. He is married now, and we are somewhat in touch again, after many years of not speaking. But I know that it is true love, because I sincerely don't want to put anything between he and his wife. Even though I ache to be with him, it hurts me more to think that I might cause him unhappiness if I meddle in his family's affairs. However the thought of his complete absence from my life is unbearable. So I will take his friendship any day.

Yes. They say kids don't know what love is but I did. I had a boyfriend from grade two to five. It was kiddie love. I even knew him in highschool but we grew apart. I still think about what could have been if "we" didn't get so shy. We had great chemistry and I'm sure we still would. I think I'll love him forever even if we never meet again.

Yes. Since 8th grade. It's a good thing that we never got together back then, because I didn't know how to make a relationship work anyway. Now, I know how to make relationships succeed. On top of that, I will always have my fantassies, and in my fantassies it will always be perfect and unspoiled with her.
