Nicole Jordan and Lisa Kleypas write great historical romance novels. Since you like Nicholas Sparks you might like James Patterson. Two books by him I recommend are Sam's Letters to Jennifer and Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas.

If you like Pride and Prejudice, try Jane Eyre - similar time frames but such different ways of telling a story. JE is all stormy passions and outrageous incidents

Great Expectations - a young man rises and falls and rises again and finds that rising isn't what he really wants or needs.

The Prisoner of Zenda - Anthony Hope. Swashbuckling adventure and heartbreaking romance.

The Scarlet Pimpernel - the prose is terribly purple but the story races along, love and hair-breadth escapes in the time of the French Revolution.

The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger; Wonderful story!

Smoke Jumper by Nicholas Evans

Beauty and the Spy by Julie Anne Long

The Redemption of Althalus by David & Leigh Eddings

Each of these is a keeper for me and books that I have re-read at least once.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is a great book! (There is a sequel as well called New Moon).

Sarah Dessen writes some great YA romance/realistic fiction books as well. Her newest book is Just Listen; my personal favorite of hers is The Truth About Forever.

If you like retellings of fairy tales...Spindle's End by Robin McKinley, Beast by Donna Jo Napoli, and Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire

Anne McCaffrey. Brilliant writer!!!
C.S Lewis, though it's aimed at kids, it's still great stuuf. The Narnia Chronicles and Cosmic Trilogy are great.
Some funny ones by Eoin Colfer, all his Artemis Fowls books are hilariously funny.
You might also like Anne Rice.

It sounds like you like romance and magic...I would recommend Love in the time of Cholera...he can be a bit tough to chew on when you start...needless to say he is heads and shoulders above Rowling...just stick with it and you will fall in love with this book. Its a beautiful love story
