We are a volunteer fire department in Canada and we donate 15000 to 20000 dollars a year to Muscular Distrophy. We raise the money through a Boot Drive where we go to the malls and use a firemans boot to collect donations. It's competitive to fill the boots. We also have a trivia night and a casino night with fake money sold at the door. $20 dollars of fake money for every dollar. We have a roulette wheel, blackjack and poker tables.Usually the big winners leave there money behind as a donation. We supply snacks and drinks for a nominal fee and everyone has a great time.

If You've got a good size Fire Department that's well supported by the Community, Cookouts are usually the way to go. We have them Here in Eastern North Carolina all the Time. The Food, usually BBQ Pork, Chicken, Potato Salad, Cake, etc. All Fresh Food, much better than what can be Bought elsewhere, Cooked up by People You Know. The Plates normally Sell for less than $10 . And, usually 300 to 500 Plates of Food will Sell out in no time. And, when there is extra Food left over, it can be Sold to Large families in Bulk. And it's really a lot of Fun to Volunteer to help out, and Connect with Your Friends and Neighbors for a Worthy Cause. Our Local Churches and Fire Departments are Connected, and Work together with One Another for just such Fundraisers. And the Local Newspapers and Radio Stations Advertise the Fundraisers Free of Charge. Done Right, with People that Know what They're doing, this can Generate Thou$andS of Dollar$ !

How about holding a raffle for a Harley Davidson motorcycle? You could sell 2000 tickets for $20 a piece. That would raise $40,000 before your expenses such as advertising, ticket printing, etc. You can try to get the Harley donated or buy it from a dealer. If you are only selling 2000 tickets the odds of winning are 1 in 2000. Those are pretty appealing odds. You could also do the same with a car raffle. Good luck!

At our station we did a pancake breakfast and a BBQ, the BBQ was the biggest money maker. We had alot of stuff donated for door prizes...Anything with food will make people come, or at least in my neck of the woods...
