What you need to know Jane, is the "Computer Chips" (Integrated Circuits) that run all computers only recognize "Binary Code" (ones and Zeros)

Everything that your computer does (accept for the rare "analog signals") is dictated by the "ones and zeros".

When you type on the keyboard the information is sent in Binary "ASCII Code" which is the code that translates alpha/numeric letters and numbers into Binary Code that your computer recognizes.

It's not much different than going to the United Nations where different languages are spoken but they are translated to your language so you can follow the proceedings ;-)

Even your Display (Monitor) is driven by these "ones and zeros". But if you have an "Analog" Monitor, these "Ones and Zeros" are translated into an "Analog" signal that drives your display, if it is a digital display then the "Ones and Zero's" drive it directly.

No transformation occurs :) It is just computers' alphabet consist only of two letters that is '1' and '0'. Your operating system (Windows or Linux or Mac OS X etc. ) interprets 1s and 0s and displays them in a format that human beings can understand. Data isn't "transformed". Computer data is always binary at the lowest level (ie, 1s and 0s). What you see on your screen is the result of layers between the base data and you that "translate" the binary data into human readable data.
